Currently there are no known bugs associated with this quest that affect the 100% route.
This quest has a unique and significant bug. If you talk to go straight to Armand and bribe him to get into the Thieves Guild instead of getting a recommendation from a beggar or Myvryna Arano, the quest will never be started and therefore never be counted as complete, despite the game internally tracking the quest as having progressed to the final stage. This results in the game considering the quest complete without actually updating the Quests Completed statistic in the Accomplishments tab. This behavior has not been observed in any other quest.

  1. Fast travel to the Imperial City Waterfront District.
  2. Read the wanted poster on the side of the archway behind you.
  3. Go through the archway and hug the right wall until you get to the Garden of Dareloth just over the stone fence.
  4. Wait until midnight, then talk to Puny Ancus, who is a beggar sleeping in a bed near the shack.
    • Bribe to max disposition.
    • ↳ Gray Fox.
    • ↳ Yes, I want to work with him. (40)
  5. Talk to Armand Christophe, who is nearby holding a torch.
    • ↳ Gray Fox.
    • ↳ Join the Thieves Guild. (✔ 100)

Bugs

This quest has a unique and significant bug. 30 I was given a mysterious note by a mysterious Dark Elf. It offers greater wealth and less jail time. Maybe I should check it out. I have to wait until midnight, and then go to the Garden of Dareloth.
40 A beggar told me that if I want to find the Gray Fox, I should look for the Garden of Dareloth in the Waterfront District of the Imperial City around midnight. The Gray Fox is the only clue I have to the mysterious Thieves Guild.
