Item Launching is a glitch where items gets placed below the player in a state where they are overlapping, which forces them apart and moves the player in the process, launching them a considerable distance.
Instructions
- Find a place where the player has space directly below them to drop items.
- Look straight down and face the direction you want to be launched.
- Drop a dense item, then and a stackable item. (Currently we only know Wrist Irons and Sack Cloth Sandals respectively to have these properties.)
- Hold running forward while you close your inventory. Optionally you can also jump as soon as your inventory closes for varying results.
- The dropped items should spawn inside of each other, exploding outwards and launching the player.
Additional Notes
- This glitch is extremely dependent on luck. A perfectly executed setup will more often than not result in a very weak launch.
- The specific order in which the items are dropped seems very crucial to the launch happening.
- Timing a jump as the inventory is closing can drastically affect the results of the launch, but typically seems to make it weaker or way more vertical.
Mechanics
This glitch requires further research to fully understand its mechanics. Some information in this section is currently speculation.
There seems to be a certain "density" to items, as well as to-be-determined rules as to how items get placed when dropped. For example, the Wrist Irons are "dense" as they feel physically heavier when being interacted with by the player after dropping them, which may explain why they launch the player when dropped. When the Wrist Irons and the Sack Cloth Sandals are dropped, they end up placed in the exact same space as each other, forcing the Wrist Irons up and away from the corner the player is in. In the process of this happening, the dense Wrist Irons seem to push the player, causing a launch. Sack Cloth Sandals and Wrist Irons are both small, which may have something to do with the item positioning when dropped as well. When testing dropping various items, it appears larger items like pants will appear above the player instead of below them, and cannot be placed inside one another, while smaller items can. Additionally, the order in which these items are dropped seems to matter, as dropping the Sack Cloth Sandals before the Wrist Irons results in less successful launches.
