Oblivion:Cutscene Overlapping
Cutscene Overlapping is a glitch where the player can Load Warp between multiple cutscene area to trigger them at the same time, allowing them to regain player controls before the cutscene has ended.
Instructions
This glitch was very recently discovered, so the extent of its use cases are unknown. The steps below are for a the specific example that was first discovered:
- Create a save during the Caught in the Hunt quest where you are about to exit the Hunter's Run to watch the cutscene where Aleron is killed.
- Advance the Main Quest to the end of Light the Dragonfires.
- Create a save outside of the temple before entering it for the last time. Quicksave right after Martin talks to you for the final time.
- Load the Caught in the Hunt save, then Load Warp the Quicksave through the door to exit Fort Grief.
- Watch the Caught in the Hunt cutscene and Quicksave as soon as you regain control of the character.
- Load the save outside of the Temple, then Load Warp into the temple using the Quicksave.
- You can now move freely during the final cutscene.
Additional Notes
- This will skip the final cutscene video automatically, making it an alternative to the Final Cutscene Skip.
Mechanics
When the player activates a cutscene, their controls are disabled until the enableplayercontrols
script is called. By Load Warping to another location that has a different cutscene, the player can trigger the enableplayercontrols
from that cutscene ending, allowing them to move freely before the original cutscene has ended. It is unknown why this skips the final cutscene video of the Main Quest. It is likely that the cutscene is programmed to play until the player has control again, so by already having control enabled before it starts, the cutscene immediately ends.
