The Yield Glitch is a glitch that stops guards from pursuing the player after they have resisted arrest without having to pay the gold fine or go to jail.
Instructions
Yield Glitch
- Drag hostile guards towards a doorway to an outdoor area.
- Yield by holding block while trying to talk to a guard. You need to be spaced far enough away that the guard will not immediately enter dialogue with you. Alternatively, if they get staggered by block knockback, the window of timing will be much easier.
- Immediately exit the area before the guard can talk to you. Do not re-enter the area right away or you will be arrested again. Guards in other areas will now not pursue you.
Instant Yield Glitch
- Drag hostile guards to any outdoor location.
- Yield by holding block while trying to talk to a guard, and open your inventory on the same frame.
- When done correctly, the “[City] Guard accepts your yield” message will appear at the top left of the screen, and you will be able to fast travel away.
- Guards should no longer pursue you after fast traveling.
Additional Notes
- Since you will still have a bounty, attempting to talk to a guard again will cause them to try to arrest you.
- If your bounty is 500 or higher, this glitch will no longer work since all guards are scripted to approach the player once they reach 500 or higher bounty.
- If there is a guard immediately next to you in the room you escape to, you will sometimes get arrested again anyway.
- If you pay off your fines and bounty with a Thieves Guild Doyen after performing this glitch, hostile guards may remain aggressive despite no longer having a bounty. Make sure you yield to these guards before they hurt you or random NPCs may die trying to defend you.
Mechanics
This glitch requires further research to fully understand its mechanics. Some information in this section is currently speculation.
The only confirmed aspect of how this works is that the player will only be arrested by guards that see them if their bounty is 500 or more, so by interrupting the guard walking up to the player after yielding and leaving the cell, whatever script that is set for the guard to approach the player is then cancelled.
