Current Best Route

Quest stages are indicated in parentheses at the end of each step when they are updated. Keep in mind that these optimized steps are within the context of the 100% speedrun route, meaning that certain items and setups are sometimes assumed to have already been performed prior to the start of the quest.

  1. Reach level 10 and acquire Ectoplasm from a ghost in your Anvil house.
  2. Fast travel to Howling Cave, SE of Skingrad.
  3. Make a save outside facing the door to the cave. This will be called Temp_Save later.
  4. Go in the cave, head north to the back wall, and go through the door to the right behind the rock wall that opens up.
  5. In the second zone, kill all 5 Necromancers.
  6. Quicksave, load the Temp_Save, then Load Warp the quicksave through the door. Exit the cave.
  7. Fast travel to Meridia’s Shrine, west of Skingrad and activate the shrine.
    Select “Offer Ectoplasm.” (20)
  8. Wait for the quest to update and activate the shrine again. (30) (✔ 100)

Bugs

Currently there are no known bugs associated with this quest that affect the 100% route.

Route Logic Considerations

  • The Talos (Tiber Septim) Wayshrine is just SW of Meridia's Shrine, so it should be activated during this quest.
  • The Necromancers in Howling Cave each have a chance of dropping a Black Soul Gem that you need for another shrine offering, so this quest should be done before Vaermina.
  • This shrine accepts Ectoplasm, Bonemeal, or Mort Flesh to start this quest. Ectoplasm is the only one of these three items that is needed for other route logic, for Drunk and Disorderly during the Fighters Guild. This makes Ectoplasm the best option, with the ghosts during the Where Spirits Have Lease being an efficient source. This means Where Spirits Have Lease should be done before Meridia so that the player already has Ectoplasm. See the Ectoplasm item page for more details.
  • Since a specific player level is required to start this quest, it is best done after the first instance of Power Leveling in the route logic.
  • Like most Daedric Shrine quests, there are unskippable cutscenes that we need to find a way to avoid.

10 One of Meridia's followers has told me that the Daedra can be summoned if something from the corpse of an undead creature is left as an offering at the statue. [You must be level 10 to begin this quest.]
20 After I made the correct offering, Meridia appeared and spoke to me. The Daedra told me of a cult of necromancers in the Howling Cave who have been stealing from graves in order to raise an undead army. Meridia wants the necromancers killed. I can reach them from a secret door in the back of the cave.
30 I have killed the necromancers in Howling Cave. I should return to the Shrine of Meridia.
100 Meridia was gratified that I had performed the task assigned to me. As a reward, I have been given the Ring of Khajiiti.
